FAQ

China email FAQ

What is a .cn address used for?
Some Chinese services ask for, or prefer, a .cn style address when you sign up. This is a temporary address you can use to receive the verification mail on those sign-up screens.
Can anyone use a .cn address?
A .cn address is created as soon as you open the page. Some domains are for members only, though; when you cannot use one, an address on a regular domain is created instead. Members can keep using the dedicated domain.
Do verification mails from Chinese services arrive normally?
Most arrive without trouble. Some services block temporary addresses or send mail late, though. We cannot see what happens on the sender's side, so if nothing arrives, wait a minute or two and request the mail again.
Can I read mail written in Chinese?
Received mail is shown as it was sent. You can copy the verification code or link as is, and turn on your browser's translation if you want to read the rest.
The verification code expires quickly
Chinese services often use short code lifetimes. If a code expires, request a new one in the service and the new mail arrives at the same address. If the address is about to expire, press 'Extend 30 min' first.
What if the service blocks this domain?
Some services block temporary email domains. Press 'New address' to get another domain and try again; the membership also unlocks premium domains. If you tell us which service blocked you, it really helps us keep our domains in shape: use 'Report a blocked domain' on the report page.
Can I keep the mail for later?
Mail at a temporary address is deleted after the retention time. If you log in, you can save important messages to your favorites.
How long are the address and mail kept?
60 minutes by default. If you need more, press the 'Extend 30 min' button under the mailbox: up to 2 times as a guest, unlimited once you log in. After that, the address and the mail are deleted from our server.
Do I need to sign up or pay?
No. An address is ready the moment you open the page. Receiving mail is free without an account; only some domains and features like changing your address are part of the membership.
Can I send mail from this address?
No, it is receive-only. Use it for verification mail, notices and newsletters you receive.
